Several of the contributors on the project have been personally affected by Alzheimers disease. Both family members and friends have been lost. Lou Ward Founder and Creative Director of Tinker is one of those team members. Wayne Ward began exhibiting symptoms of Alzheimers in his later years. As the years passed he gradually lost touch with his surroundings and then later his family. Wayne had trouble telling the difference between what was real and imagined, and began to forget family member after family member until he could only remember his wife Janice.

This project is dedicated to Wayne and Janice, and the entire Ward family. Both of his grandparents had a profound impact on Lou when he was growing up. Wayne in particular was the person who inspired Lou to create and make things from a very early age. Lou and Wayne would spend hour after hour tinkering together in his grandfather’s workshop. Without these formative experiences Lou wouldn’t have become the curious creative he is today.

Wayne Ward was born November 3, 1934 in Slemp, Kentucky, the son of the late Louis B. and Orpha Campbell Ward. On March 1st, 2018, at the age of 83, Wayne Ward passed away surrounded by his family at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He will be missed by all those who knew him in life.
